Mansell suffers head injuries in fall

National Hunt jockey Jimmy Mansell faces a crucial 48 hours in intensive care after a fall at Ballinrobe on Sunday. The 22-year-old jockey from Ballylanders in Limerick suffered severe head injuries when his horse Showboat Melody fell in the Connacht Gold Handicap Hurdle.

The champion-claiming jockey was involved in a three-horse pile-up when his mount was up with the pace before falling heavily. The incident resulted in Peruge falling and his jockey Niall Madden suffering two broken wrists.
