Dettori faces Jockey Club inquiry

Frankie Dettori faces a belated inquiry on Thursday into a ride he gave a horse at Newmarket nearly eight weeks ago. He is charged under rule 158, which covers a jockey's failure to take all possible measures to ensure his mount is given the best possible chance in a race, for his riding of Lobos at Newmarket on June 21.

No inquiry was held by the Newmarket stewards on the day but the race was later reviewed by the Jockey Club, who decided there was a case to answer - though Dettori denies any wrongdoing.

The Italian was beaten into second place on both his comeback rides at Salisbury today. St Pancras was sent off favourite to give him a winning return from 10 days sidelined with chicken pox, only to go down by a neck to Mubeen. Then Fraulein was beaten by Chorist in the feature contest.
