Jockey John Egan ruled himself out of today's meeting at Goodwood due to hip and knee injuries he suffered when kicked by a horse at Newmarket last night. And he admitted he is struggling to be fit to ride at Newbury tomorrow. The rider was hurt when Grand Passion lashed out with both hind feet as he attempted to mount the colt.
"I'm extremely sore," he said. "It hurts to sit down and it hurts to stand up. I've had a bit of physio and been in and out of the bath but there's not much else I can do. I don't think anything's broken but I'll be having an X-ray later today. I'm doing my best to be fit for Newbury tomorrow but I'm struggling at the moment."
