Century City wins at the Curragh

Century City justified favouritism in determined fashion in a rough race for the Goffs International Stakes at the Curragh this afternoon. A purchase at the 2000 yearling sales run by the sponsors, Century City was running for the first time in the colours of America's Thomas Nichols who purchased the son of Danzig from Coolmore with a view to racing him in America later in the season.

After watching the 5-4 favourite hold off the late run of English challenger Common World by a neck, champion trainer Aidan O'Brien nominated the Travers Stakes at Saratoga RD Secretariat Stakes in Chicago as the choice of races in America for his good-looking charge.

'It is very possible he will go to Arlington for the Secretariat which we won two years ago with Ciro. This horse idles in front, that's why he just won narrowly again,' said trainer O'Brien.
