Costly ban for Dettori

Frankie Dettori will miss the final two days of next week's meeting at York after picking up a four-day suspension at Doncaster. The Italian received the ban after his ride on runner-up Al Moughazel in the Doncaster Racecourse Sponsorship Club Conditions Stakes. He was judged guilty of using the whip with excessive frequency and not giving his mount time to respond in the one-mile event.

Dettori will be sidelined May 15-18 inclusive, which means he will miss the Convergent Communications Dante Stakes and the Merewood Homes Yorkshire Cup on the Knavesmire, as well as Newbury's two-day meeting which features the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes.

Dettori will miss his three intended rides at Chester today as he is suffering from a heavy cold. The Italian was due to partner Michael Jarvis' Kayseri in the day's feature race, the Group Three Victor Chandler Chester Vase. But his agent Ray Cochrane confirmed he sit out today's action although he could be back riding tomorrow.
