Aidan O'Brien, whose top colt Johannesburg is co-third favourite for Saturday's Kentucky Derby, could miss the race due to flu. O'Brien's doctor is reluctant to allow him to undertake the flight to Louisville, according to a statement released by the Churchill Downs track on Thursday.
A final decision on his travel plans will be made Friday morning from his Ballydoyle stables. Johannesburg, listed as a 6-1 chance, and O'Brien's other entry Castle Gandolfo (20-1) are scheduled to remain at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington until Saturday morning when they will be transported to Churchill Downs. Travelling head lad Pat Keating is supervising the pair.
