Leading Kentucky Derby fancy Repent, runner-up to Johannesburg in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last year, has been ruled out of the Churchill Downs contest after a chipped bone was discovered in his ankle. The small chip was detected in an X-ray of the colt's left front ankle, an injury that trainer Kenny McPeek believes occurred during the running of the Illinois Derby, in which he also finished runner-up. The 12-1 shot is scheduled to undergo surgery for the removal of the chip.
McPeek still holds a strong hand for the 128th running of the 'Run for the roses' as he is responsible for favourite Harlan's Holiday, who is due to run next in the Toyota Blue Grass at Keeneland on Saturday.
