Tie The Knot, the record Australian-trained money earner, has been retired after a career which yielded 13 Group One successes. He gained his last elite success in the Chipping Norton Stakes in February, which he followed with two below-par efforts. Trained by Guy Walter, the gelding earned over AUS6.2million during a 62 start career which saw him gain 21 victories.
He was the only horse to have won four consecutive runnings of the Chipping Norton Stakes race between 1999 and 2002. The gelding's roll of honour also includes successive runnings of the Sydney Cup, Ranvet Stakes and the Mercedes Classic, plus the Rosehill Guineas and Underwood Stakes. Only the mighty New Zealand mare Sunline has bankrolled more money on the Australasian circuit.
