Tony McCoy edged a shade closer to equalling Sir Gordon Richards' record of 269 winners in a season after Polar Champ's victory at Newton Abbot - but he drew a blank on the rest of the card. The champion jockey has endured a rather lean spell recently and had netted only two winners in the past 14 days until Polar Champ came to his rescue with a facile success over Norski Lad in the Devon Caravans Claiming Hurdle.
And McCoy said: "I am very likely to be at Chepstow on Bank Holiday Monday as I could well have a full book of rides there and hopefully some good chances among them. I'm not really doing that well at this record chasing stuff right at the moment but to be fair there hasn't been that much racing. Anyway it's fingers crossed to get a few more at Chepstow on Monday."
