Consistent Camden scores at Downpatrick

Eamon Sheehy and amateur Mark Darcy teamed up to capture the three mile handicap chase at Downpatrick through the consistent Camden West. Heavily-supported from 6/4 into evens favourite, the eight-year-old was always travelling well in behind the leaders and readily settled the issue when given the office after the final fence.

Mona Day made all to secure the opening two mile four furlong maiden hurdle, providing 5lb claimer Sean McDermott with his fourth winner in the last ten days. Trainer Pat Fahy will now aim his charge at next Wednesday's Tattersalls Mares Series final at Fairyhouse following her three-length defeat of Huncheon Siss.

Old Kilminchy justified Michael Hourigan's trip from Limerick when staying on resolutely to capture the two mile six furlong handicap hurdle under the trainer's son Paul. The six-year-old led after three out before going on to deny Treaty Rebel two and a half lengths, and will now have his attention switched to the larger obstacles.

Jockey Ian Power was hit with an E130 fine for failing to get down to his scheduled weight of 10-2 on Superdante here, being replaced by Ruby Walsh, and his day got worse in the two mile four furlong beginners chase. His mount Eternal Night, who had made every yard of the running, appeared set for an easy win when getting in too close to the penultimate fence and paying the penalty. That left Danaeve to coast home under Barry Cash, a pleasant surprise for his trainer Gerry Keane, who felt his charge would need the outing.

Do It Again was another to reward a long journey north, this time from Wexford, when taking the Hunter chase in determined fashion for JD Moore. The success was a particularly welcome one for handler John Berry, who was saddling his first winner under rules since last August.

Ruby Walsh proved to be a significant booking for Gerry Stack's Plettenburg Bay in the two mile one furlong handicap hurdle, the pair running out comfortable victors. Nibbled at in the market before being returned at 12/1, the injury-plagued ten-year-old had one and a half lengths in hand of Leapogues Lady at the line. Native Sparkle just had enough in hand to repel the late thrust of newcomer Supreme Justice in a rousing finish to the bumper.
