Ground to decide Marlborough National bid

It has been confirmed ground conditions at Aintree will determine whether or not Marlborough lines up for the Martell Grand National on Saturday week. Owner Sir Robert Ogden's racing manager Barry Simpson says the horse needs good ground and that they'll have to wait and see how it looks. If Marlborough doesn't feature in the Grand National he will probably run in the Martell Cup.

"The ground would have to be in Marlborough's favour for him to run in the National. He needs good ground. In softer conditions I would be very concerned about his stamina, as he didn't appear to stay when we tried him in the Scottish National once before," said Simpson.
