Tony McCoy edged closer to the all-time winners mark with a long awaited win on board Noisetine at Wincanton this afternoon. The champion jockey is now just four winners short of Sir Gordon Richards' total of 269 winners in a season, having broken his 13 race streak without a win with victory in the Wincanton For Weddings Mares' Only Novices' Hurdle.
McCoy was content to keep his mount in mid-division on the first circuit but as the runners came round to the straight for the second time it looked a case of 'how far' for Venetia Williams' charge. So it proved as Noiestine pulled away from her rivals to put McCoy on the 265 mark.
McCoy was out of luck on his next outing when 7-2 chance Folly Road could only mange to finish a distant third to 3-1 joint favourites Indian Chance and Restless Wind in the Tota Exacta Handicap Chase. McCoy pulled up 2-1 favourite The Gene Genie on his third ride of the afternoon before finishing third on his final mount of the day Cowboyboots.
