Irish apprentice jockey Tadhg O'Shea will get a chance to shine across the water at the weekend thanks to Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson. O'Shea will ride Candleriggs for Ferguson in the £100,000 Tote Ayr Gold Cup tomorrow.
The 19-year-old, who is currently battling it out with Wayne Lordan for the apprentices' title in Ireland, was recommended for the Candleriggs mount by leading Irish jockey Michael Kinane.
"Mick spoke to Alex and recommended the lad for the ride. He [O'Shea] is based with Mick Halford and he's ridden plenty of winners," said Peter Shoemark, secretary to the horse's trainer Ed Dunlop.
