The next couple of days will be crucial for the future of Mediterranean who is still in a serious condition following injuries to his off-fore during the Rothmans Royals St Leger. The Aidan O'Brien-trained three-year-old is being treated by vets who are desperately trying to save the Tote Ebor winner for stud.
"It will be another two or three days before we know whether he can be saved for stud duties. He has serious tendon, knee and ligament injuries, " said O'Brien last night.
The son of Sadler's Wells was pulled up by jockey Jamie Spencer over five furlongs from home in the Doncaster Classic on Saturday after apparently being struck into. Mediterranean's leg was put in a cast at the South Yorkshire track and the colt was back at O'Brien's yard in Ballydoyle later that day.
