Williamson's Galway Festival fitness race

Norman Williamson hopes to be fit to ride at next week's Galway Festival after badly spraining his ankle in a fall at Tipperary yesterday. It was first feared that the Cork-born rider might have suffered broken bones after coming down on Quinze in a hurdle race, but he was given the all clear after undergoing x-rays.

The jump jockey has been advised to rest and keep an ice pack on his injury for a couple of days before returning for another check-up. The seven-day Galway Festival gets under way next Monday.
