O'Brien's Mozart heading for York

Mozart, trained by Irishman Aidan O'Brien, will bid to confirm his position as champion sprinter in the Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes at York next month. Mozart notched up a marvellous victory in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket, which gave O'Brien his fourth Group One triumph in Britain in five weeks, coming home first three-and-a-half lengths from Cassandra Go with Misraah another length back in third.

"He has serious class and serious pace - we haven't got anything that can work with him at home. He is a very, very fast horse and we will probably look at the Nunthorpe at York now. The five furlongs would be no problem - he would love it a speed is his big thing. Then all the big sprints are open to him and if he's still around at the time of the Breeders' Cup it would be hard to stop him going - he would love the dirt as nothing would come from behind," explained O'Brien.

The Irish trainer is now just £70,000 behind Sir Michael Stoute at the top of the British trainers' table, with his £1.3million tally coming from just three dozen runners boosted by the likes of Galileo, Imagine and Black Minnaloushe. With victory in the Derby and Oaks plus all three Irish Classics, O'Brien is very pleased with his three-year-olds. "We have some serious individuals with serious physiques and great pedigrees and most of them have kept healthy very well through the year," he said.
