Kieren Fallon was today looking forward to getting back on board Vodafone Derby runner-up Golan. He reckons the colt is one to follow over middle-distances after finishing second in Saturday's Classic, which the former champion jockey was forced to watch with his family in Ireland due to suspension. But Fallon was full of admiration for three-and-a-half-length winner Galileo and knows his deputy Pat Eddery faced an impossible task at Epsom.
"I was gutted not to have a ride in the great race but Golan wouldn't have beaten the winner with an outboard engine," the Irishman said in his News Of The World column. "Make no mistake we saw a class act at Epsom. That sort of acceleration is the hallmark of a world-beater. My horse Golan stayed on well to finish second."
"He got every yard of the mile and a half and it was only his third appearance on a racecourse. Golan looks one to follow over middle distances this summer."
A riding ban imposed at Ayr early this month cost Fallon the chance to ride the 2000 Guineas winner at Epsom. The Irishman, who won the Derby on Oath two years ago, is due to return to action at Salisbury on Tuesday.
