Ireland’s Mick Fitzgerald, who gave up his remaining rides after a fall in the opening race at Ascot on Saturday, will return to action on Wednesday. Fitzgerald felt sore after being brought down on The Queen Mother's Bella Macrae at the third flight of the Brunswick Handicap Hurdle.
“I'm not so bad this morning,” he said. “I just banged my shoulder and got a little bang on my head. I'll be back at Ascot on Wednesday.”
With the Cheltenham Festival under threat from an outbreak of foot and mouth disease nearby, Fitzgerald is relishing the prospect more than ever this year’s Martell Grand National meeting which gets under way at Aintree on Thursday.
“I'm very much looking forward to Aintree. With the doubts surrounding Cheltenham, Aintree looks like being the big meeting this year.” (PA)
