Trainer Mark Pitman revealed today that Browjoshy will not be running in next week’s Martell Aintree Grand National. Browjoshy, whose odds had been as low as 20-1 to win the race, has suffered a setback and is unable to run, although it is hoped that he will be back next year.
Pitman will now be pinning his hopes on Browjoshy’s stablemate Smarty, as he aims to emulate the success of his mother Jenny. She became one of the most famous sporting personalities in Britain when she saddled Corbiere to win the race in 1983, a feat she matched with Royal Athlete in 1995.
“Smarty is in very good form and he is pleasing me. Timmy Murphy will ride him. His best form is on good ground and if he gets that, I'm sure he'll run well,” said Pitman
The Last Fling is also reported to be on course for the National by trainer Sue Smith's husband Harvey. Although he has yet to hit the heights reached last season, they are hopeful of a big run under stable jockey Seamus Durack. “He is in good form, we've been keeping him busy at home and he should go well if he can keep up” Smith said.
