Bobbyjo's hopes of bidding for a second Aintree Martell Grand National title in three years are in serious doubt tonight after the horse picked up an injury at Fairyhouse today. The Grand National winner, ridden by Philip Carberry, slipped on landing over the second-last fence in the Grand National Trial Handicap Chase this afternoon. Although the horse finished up eighth, there is some concern over his health.
Pamela Carberry, wife of Bobbyjo's trainer Tommy, revealed this evening: "Bobbyjo has a fracture at the back of his near-fore knee and we think it happened at the second last. The vet will have a look at the injury in the morning, but it's not looking good at the moment." This latest injury couldn't come at a worse time as Bobbyjo had recently returned to form and many were looking forward to his return to Aintree, where bookies rated him at 33-1 for the prestigious title.
