Racing: Melbourne Cup favourites

Kayf Tara, Godolphin's dual Gold Cup winner, is 14-1 second favourite with Australian bookmaker Michael Eskander for the Foster's Melbourne Cup on November 7. The six-year-old had been due to run in the £800,000 contest at Flemington last year only to be cruelly sidelined through injury.

The Melbourne bookie has the New Zealand-based mare Showella, a dual Group One winner, as his 12-1 market leader. The Martin Pipe-trained Far Cry, beaten a head by Kayf Tara at Royal Ascot, has been given a 16-1 quote along with Freemason and Timahs. Mark Johnston's Fruits Of Love is a 20-1 chance together with the Gold Cup winner Enzeli and David Elsworth's 1998 Melbourne Cup third Persian Punch. The entry deadline of international horses is July 31.
