Aidan O’Brien’s charge Ciro laid down his credentials for a possible tilt at the Epsom Derby with a convincing victory at Longchamp today. The Irish horse earned a quote of 16-1 from Ladbrokes after his three-quarters of a length success in the Group One ‘Prix Lupin.’ Ciro, sent off a 7-1 chance, was in the front rank for most of the way then struck the front with two furlongs to travel. Michael Kinane kept him up to his work to hold off hold off hot favourite Kutub with Rhenium third.
Meanwhile Bach has lost his unbeaten record in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown today. The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt, winner of the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot last year and on his seasonal debut here in April, faced three rivals included last season's National Stakes winner Sinndar from John Oxx's stable, who won at 7/4 joint favourite of two with Bach.
