A fantastic effort from Munster, but it was not enough. They lived with Toulon in every facet of the game and at no point were overrun, but crucially they made too many errors to win a game of this magnitude. The first half left the Irish province nine points behind mainly due to their own inability to play within the rules of the game when in defence. The were much improved second half when they tightened their game measurably. However, a missed penalty from Keatley, a yellow card for Earls, and a decision to kick for the corner instead of the sticks when five points and a men in the sin bin down, cost Munster. The better team wins and marches on to face Saracens in an Anglo-French Heineken Cup final on 24 May at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
That is Ireland's last involvement in the Heineken Cup, for the provinces it is back to the Pro12 for now, and onwards to the Rugby Champions Cup in 2015.
