Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow are tied for 11th place on four under par after impressive second rounds at the Tokyo Olympics.
With a storm forecast for Saturday, the tournament may be cut to 54 holes, with a decision expected laster today.
Meadow birdied four of her last five holes for a five-under-par 66, with Maguire shooting six birdies and two bogeys for a 67.
The Ireland duo are nine shots off the lead after a brilliant 62 by the USA's Nelly Korda moved her to 13 under par, with Nanna Koerstz-Madsen, Aditi Ashok and Emily Kristine Pedersen tied for second on nine under.
"I just kind of managed it a bit better today I think," said Meadow, who finished on one over par after Wednesday’s opening round.
"I still didn’t have my best stuff but I gave myself a little bit more room on left pins and didn’t short side myself so that was really the key and is always part of shooting under par.
"I guess I hope I can start like that tomorrow. There’s a lot of wedges on the last few, they’re easyish holes and they moved the tee on 18 up today so all of those things contribute but I finally got comfortable, hit good shots and started to see it a bit better."
Meadow reached the back nine on one under par after birdies on the sixth and eighth holes. Her one bogey came on the par-three 10th but she responded brilliantly with birdies on the 14th, 15th, 16th and 18th holes.
Maguire also produced an impressive riposte after dropping a shot on the first hole. The Cavan golfer birdied the par-three fourth and three successive birdies on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes propelled her up the leaderboard.
A bogey on the 11th followed a birdie on the 10th, but Maguire finished on a positive note with a birdie on the 18th for a second-round 67.
