Niamh Coyne & Mona McSharry are both through to the 100m breaststroke final at the Youth Olympics Games, while gymnast Emma Slevin has qualified for the final of the uneven bars. 

Coyne is through in third place overall in 1:08.90 after finishing second in the first semi-final, while McSharry qualified in eight place overall after coming home third in the same semi in 1:09.74.    

Nhat Nguyen has qualified for the quarter-finals of the men’s badminton singles, while gymnast Emma Slevin has qualified for the final of the uneven bars.

Nguyen defeated Uriel Francisco Canjura Artiga (El Salvador) 2-0 to move into the last eight in Buenos Aires, winning the first game 21-4 and the second 21-11. He will next face the Chinese number one and fifth seed Shifeng Li.

Dubliner Nhat said: "I felt really comfortable on court, my technical shots were working really well today. I’m through to the quarters now, so I’m happy with my performance today. I’ll get some rest now and prepare for tomorrow."

"I play the Chinese number one next, that will be a very tough game. I have never played him before so I’m looking forward to that."

Gymnast Emma Slevin has qualified for the final of the women's uneven bars.

The Galway native went first in qualifying and was seventh with a score of 12.833 (4.800 difficulty and 8.033 execution).

Slevin has also qualified for the final of the vault and is eighth in the all-round rankings.

Dublin golfer Lauren Crowley Walsh made a good start to the women's individual stroke play. A five-over par round of 75 left her in a tie for 11th place, four shots off the medal places.

Galway's David Kitt shot 80 in the men's event on the same Hurlingham Club course. He is in joint 28th spot, 11 off the leaders.
