Ciarán Ó Catháin has resigned as Chair of the Crisis Management Committee and director of the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI).

The Chair of the Crisis Management Committee and director of the OCI announced his decision at last night’s OCI meeting.

Ó Catháin is a former President of Athletics Ireland and current president of Athlone IT.

The news follows the revelation that the OCI’s review of ticketing arrangements for the Rio Olympics has been postponed after Pat Hickey threatened to seek an injunction preventing its completion.

Mr Hickey was arrested in August as part of an investigation by Brazilian police into the alleged mis-selling of tickets for the games in Rio de Janeiro.

He has temporarily stood aside from his role as OCI President since the arrest.

In a statement, the OCI said the review into ticket arrangements, which is being carried out by Grant Thornton, has been postponed pending the outcome of criminal proceedings against Mr Hickey.

This decision was made after the body received a letter from Mr Hickey’s lawyers in which he threatened to make an application to the High Court for an injunction preventing the completion of the review.
