Ireland’s Tori Pena cleared 4.3m in the women’s pole vault, but failed to progress to the final.

To guarantee qualification she needed to clear 4.6m, her personal best, or finish in the top 12 places.

Pena started well, clearing 4.15m at the first attempt and 4.3m at the second.

However, 4.45m proved a bridge too far, with the US-based athlete taking the bar down on all three attempts.

Pena finished 27th, with the lowest scoring qualifier clearing 4.55m.
