There’s no let-up in the action for Ireland’s competitors at the Rio Olympics and there are more Irish with shots at medals on Tuesday, which is Day 11 of these Games.
Check out our comprehensive guide here for who’s in action and when.
1345, Athletics, Tori Pena
This is the 29-year-old Californian pole vaulter's second Olympics and having exited at the first qualifying stage in London last time around she’ll be hoping for better. Pena qualifies to represent Ireland thanks to her Derry-born grandmother, though having competed at the Irish Dancing World Championships in Killarney in 2003 she was clearly brought up in an Irish household.
1400, Diving, Oliver Dingley
Dingley made Irish diving history when he finished 13th and comfortably qualified for Tuesday’s 3m springboard semi-final. He has the ability to make the final too, which follows later on Tuesday. Once upon a time he was on the books of Premier League football club Middlesbrough.
1400, Equestrian, Greg Broderick
Broderick just about squeezed out of the first qualifier in joint-53rd place, which was also the cut-off point. He’ll be disappointed with his performance on Sunday having jumped so well in the build-up and will need much better if he’s to make Wednesday’s next qualifying round, with the final on Sunday.
1530, Boxing, Michael Conlan
The hopes of Irish boxing now rest on the slim shoulders of the Belfast bantamweight. All of Ireland’s seven other boxers are out and the world number one in his category is the only hope of a medal in the ring. Conlan looked assured against outclassed opposition in the last round, though his Russian opponent on Tuesday will offer a step up in class.
1700, Sailing, Annalise Murphy
Monday was a frustrating day for the Dublin sailor. First there was no wind and then there was too much so sailing was postponed - if there’s no racing possible then Murphy will be automatically awarded third place as that’s the position she currently holds.
1705, Sailing, Matt McGovern and Ryan Seaton
The Irish pair are seventh in the fleet with the top ten to qualify for Thursday’s medal race. That will be their minimum aim, though they’ll have to produce some good results on Tuesday first if they are to get themselves into the fight for a place on the podium later in the week.
1705, Sailing, Andrea Brewster and Saskia Tidey
Brewster and Tidey are 12th overall so need to move up two places to make it into Thursday’s medal race. To do that they’ll need to finish well up the field in Tuesday’s three races. They have produced some good results so it’s not beyond them, though now the pressure is on.
0149 (Wednesday), Athletics, Thomas Barr
Thomas Barr ran a fast time in his heat to finish second and earn a plum draw in the semi-final round - he has lane four. That’s pretty good work for the Waterford hurdler, who missed a chunk of this season through injury and he’ll be setting his sights even higher now.
