Ireland's Annalise Murphy must wait until 5pm tomorrow to see whether she will win a medal at the Olympic Games.

The Dubliner was due to take part in the medal race at 5.05pm Irish time, but it was repeatedly put back due to unsuitable weather conditions before being postponed at 8.15pm.

The initial delay was due to a lack of wind, which also caused the men's Laser class medal race to be postponed, as well as restrictions on daylight.

However, shortly after the men's race was cancelled winds picked up due to gale of about 30 knots - too strong to safely hold the women's race.

If the race cannot be held tomorrow Murphy, who is currently sitting in third place in the Laser Radial class, will take the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, both the 49er and 49erFX classes were able to complete today's scheduled three races further out to sea.

Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern remain well positioned to qualify for their medal race after finishes of 13th, 7th and 13th left them in seventh place in the 49er standings.

Saskia Tidey and Andrea Brewster look set to miss out, however, after 19th, 6th and 19th-placed results left them in 12th place overall.
