Ireland's Annalise Murphy is in gold medal position after six races in the Laser Radial class at Rio 2016.

Having finished an agonising fourth in London, Murphy is now in with a real chance of a medal after finishing fifth and second in Wednesday's two races, which took place in blustery conditions in Guanabara Bay.

Tomorrow is a rest day for the Laser classes, with two races scheduled for both Friday and Saturday.

The sailors will then discard their worst result over the 10 completed races and the top 10 boats will go forward to Monday’s medal race.

The Dubliner finished just seven seconds off race winner Anne-Marie Lindom of Denmark in her second race of the day, which was delayed due to the inclement weather.

That result also sees the Dane move into silver medal position overall.

Murphy, who was lying in second place overnight, dropped down to third after race five but has now moved into the overall lead.

Dutch competitor Marit Bouweister, who won a silver medal at London 2012, is back in third.

Sadly, there was no live coverage of Murphy's races available as the host broadcaster, Olympic Broadcasting Services, was not covering the Laser Radial class and other broadcasters, such as RTÉ, are not permitted to arrange their own mutli-camera coverage of any Olympic event.

Meanwhile, Carlow's Finn Lynch is outside the overall top 20 after finishing in 18th and 27th positions in his two Laser races today.
