More Irish athletes make their Rio debuts on Day 3 of the Olympic Games. Amongst them are sailor Annalise Murphy and boxer Paddy Barnes.
Check out our comprehensive guide to who is doing what, when and where today.
From 2pm, Equestrian, Clare Abbott, Jonty Evans, Mark Kyle and Padraig McCarthy
After two days in the dressage ring, Ireland’s three-day eventing team move to the cross country event. At most competitions these riders take part in, the cross country takes around six to seven minutes to complete.
In Rio it’s more likely to be 10 or 11 so it will be a real test of the horses and their pilots.
Ireland are fifth in the team competition following the completion of the dressage yesterday, while Jonty Evans (4:47pm) is ninth in the individual competition. Padraig McCarthy is the first of the Irish to take on the course at 2:09pm.
3.30pm, Rowing, Sinead Jennings and Claire Lambe
High winds mean rough waters in Rio and this caused yesterday’s heats to be postponed so Jennings (39) and Lambe (26) have had to wait until Day 3 to make their Olympic debut.
This isn’t ideal for them, but it’s the same for all the competitors and those that cope best are likely to perform.
3.30pm, Rowing, Paul O’Donovan and Gary O’Donovan
The Skibbereen Rowing Club brothers, Paul (22) and Gary (23), also had to contend with yesterday’s cancellations due to lumpy water at Rio’s Lagoa. They are capable of making waves of their own despite the tough conditions and tough competition in Brazil.
3:45pm Boxing, Paddy Barnes
Barnes got a bye into the second round, meaning that he didn’t have to fight on Saturday - the day after he carried the Irish flag and led the team out at the Olympic opening ceremony on Friday.
If his antics on social media are anything to go by, he’s in relaxed form about fulfilling his prediction of winning gold at these Games. The 29-year-old is a double Olympic bronze medallist and faces Spain's Carmona Heredia as he gets his third campaign underway.
5.05pm, Sailing, Annalise Murphy (Laser Radial)
In the medal positions until the final race in London 2012, Murphy (26) eventually finished fourth following a dramatic closing day of sailing. She’s back for another crack at Olympic glory, and though her form coming into Rio has been mixed she has the ability to make the podium in the Laser class.
5.15pm, Sailing, Finn Lynch (Laser)
Ireland’s youngest sailor at the Olympics, Lynch (20) is originally from Carlow - not exactly known as a hotbed of the sport. He was earmarked as a contender for the 2020 Games in Tokyo so he is ahead of schedule.
Rio should be valuable experience for him and with no expectation on his shoulder he can perform without pressure.
