Sanita Puspure has qualified for the quarter-finals of the women's single sculls after finishing second in her heat at Rio.
The Cork-based rower completed the 2,000m in a time of 9 minutes 11.45 seconds.
Canada's Carling Zeeman won the heat in a time of 8.41.12 in what were very difficult conditions.
At one point, Puspure had to row one-handed to avoid a crash.
She explained what happened to RTÉ Sport after the race: “The waves just pushed me right into the lane next to me so I had to just tap it out.
“Otherwise we would crash or the wind could probably keep pushing me, I know it’s ridiculous.”
The 34-year-old also revealed that the choppy conditions meant that she couldn’t get the optimal preparation that she had hoped for ahead of Tuesday's quarter-final and now may have to work on her planned day off tomorrow.
“Maybe I’ll have to do some pieces now but my forearms definitely got a proper hit,” she said. “Hopefully the next round will have a bit better conditions.”
