Irish Olympic boxer Michael Conlan believes that he is peaking just at the right time as his preparations for Rio 2016 reach a climax.
Conlan and the rest of the Irish boxing squad have arrived in Brazil ahead of the start of the Olympics where the current European and World Bantanweight champion will be seeking to add Olympic gold to his collection.
The Irish squad are in Brazil to acclimatise and will have a final ten-day training camp with Brazil and the USA before the real action get underway in August.
Conlan sees these games as the culmination of his life’s work, and is ready to take that final step towards gold.
"It’s been 18 years in the coming for me," he said. "The Olympic games are just around the corner now and I can’t wait to get started and get this chapter in my life completed.
"Everything’s been brilliant, I had a minor injury in May and since then everything has been fantastic.
"My preparation has been great, my sparring has been great, the camps have been great and I feel that I’m just at the right place at the right time.
"I’m not where I need to be yet – that’s what this last camp is for.
"That’s going to bring me to my peak and I’ll be very, very happy come fight time."
