Ireland finish fifth in Eventing, with three riders through to individual jumping final

Ireland have finished fifth in the Olympics Equestrian Eventing, with Germany claiming the gold medal.

Great Britain claimed silver with the bronze medal going to New Zealand, who just edged out Sweden in the final jumping leg.

Ireland started the day in eighth place after a tricky day yesterday when they lost both Micheal Ryan and Camilla Speirs who suffered falls in the cross country section.

All three remaining Irish competitors qualified for this afternoon's individual jumping final, with Aoife Clark and Joseph Murphy both claiming double clear rounds.

Clark led the charge for Ireland, finishing in tenth place with 52.50 after a faultless round.

Murphy qualified Electric Cruise after a faultless round that saw him finish with 60.40.

Mark Kyle finished back in 32nd after a round of 71.90 in a run that included four faults and two time faults. Only the top 25 riders go through to the final, but Kyle progressed due to a limit of three finalists per nation.
