Top Russian weightlifter Oksana Slivenko withdraws from Games

Russian gold medal favourite Oksana Slivenko has been forced to withdraw from the weightlifting competition at the London Olympic Games.

World and European champion Slivenko, silver medallist in Beijing four years ago, is understood to have suffered an injury in training this week and will not now compete in the women's 69kg category.

Slivenko's spot in Russia's weightlifting squad has been taken by Natalya Zabolotnaya, who will compete in the women's 75kg weight category.

Russia has not claimed a weightlifting gold medal at the Olympics since Athens 2004.
