Ireland's Jason Smyth set a new world record at the Paralympic Games in Beijing as he eased through to the final of the 200 metres.
Smyth, who is from Derry and is visually impaired, won his heat in a time of 21.81, breaking the record he set in Assen two years ago.
Smyth is bidding to win a second gold medal at the Beijing Paralympic Games, having smashed the world record in winning the 100 metres on Saturday.
Alexey Labzin, who was Smyth’s main rival for the 100m, won the other heat in a time of 21.86.
Ireland's John McCarthy, a silver medallist in Athens four years ago, finished 11th in the Club throw.
