At the Paralympic games in Beijing today, the Irish seven-a-side football team have drawn 1-1 with Britain.

Joe Markey from Monaghan fired the Irish in front with a cracking left footed drive six minutes into the second half, but England drew level with a Michael Barker header five minutes later.

But the draw means that Ireland finish third in the pool ahead of Britain and will now face China in their classification match on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Hannah Campbell from County Down, took 10 seconds off her personal best in finishing fifth in her hear of the 100m breaststroke.

Also at the Water Cube, Stephen Campbell was sixth in his heat of the 100 Freestyle in a time of 1.08.08.

In Archery, Sean Smyth from Navan was beaten 113 to 99 by Philippe Horner in the quarter finals.

And on an extremely hot day for Road Cycling, Cathal Miller was ninth in the Individual Time trial-LC 1 category.

Enda Smyth finished in ninth position in the Individual Time Trial CP 4 final.

Catherine Walsh and pilot Joanna Hickey were seventh in the Women’s time trial (24.8 km).

And Michael Delaney and Pilot David Peelo came in 18th in their Individual Time trial final (B and V1 1-3) .

In Sailing, After Race 9, Ireland lie in 10th in the three-person keelboat Sonar and are ninth after eight races of the Skud 18 class.
