South Korea's up-and-coming Lim Su-Jeong won the Olympic women's taekwondo -57kg gold medal Thursday by beating Turkey's Azize Tanrikulu in the featherweight final.
Lim, who celebrated her 22th birthday on Wednesday, was deducted one point for a penalty in the opening round but levelled the score with a kick to the body in the second.
She landed a back kick to the Turk in the third to win her first major international title.
The bronze medals went to 2005 world champion Diana Lopez of the United States and Croatia's Martina Zubcic.
