Russia lead synchronised swimming

Russia are poised to repeat their Olympic sweep in synchronised swimming from Sydney at the Athens Games after leading the team ahead of Japan after  claiming the duet gold.

The Russians, including newly crowned duet champions Anastasia Davydova and Anastasia Yermakova and Sydney duet winners Olga Brusnikina and Maria Kisseleva, once again lead their Japanese rivals with the United States in third going into tomorrow’s free routine final.

Performing to Russian dancing music, the defending champions scored 99.333 for the three-minute routine, of which the technical marks, or half that total of  49.667, will be taken into the final.
