Romania's Monica Rosu somersaulted to the gold in the women's Olympic vault final on Sunday.
Approaching the vault with plenty of aggression, the 17-year-old's intricate twisting combination was enough to secure gold with a score of 9.656.
American Annia Hatch captured a second silver after winning one with the U.S. women's team.
Anna Pavlova of Russia finished third.
For Hatch, the result was especially sweet as she finally fulfilled her goal of winning an Olympic medal in her signature event.
She qualified for the 1996 Games but economic problems in her native Cuba meant they could not afford to send her to Atlanta.
"It is unbelievable and very exciting, I never dreamt I would win two medals," said Hatch, who took up U.S. citizenship in 2001 after marrying her American coach.
"I never thought I would win one in the first place and winning these medals is a very special accomplishment for me."
A hopped landing from defending champion Elena Zamolodchikova of Russia earned her deductions and she trailed in fourth place.
