Gonzalez wins men's bronze for Chile

Fernando Gonzalez, the 16th seed from Chile, won the men's singles bronze medal at the Olympic tennis tournament today when he beat unseeded American Taylor Dent 6-4, 2-6, 16-14 in a cliffhanger.

Dent saved a match point on his serve in the ninth game of the third set and broke Gonzalez when the Chilean was serving for the match at 5-4

And he had the chance to finish it when Gonzalez saved two match points on his serve in the 28th game of an nerve-wracking third set.

The American then dropped his serve and Gonzalez, due on court later in the night for the doubles final, served out the match in 3 hours 25 minutes.

Sunday's men's singles final will be another Chile versus United States match-up with Nicolas Massu taking on Mardy Fish.

The men's tournament saw a mass exodus of stars in the early rounds, including world numbers one and two Roger Federer and Roddick, along with Carlos Moya, Marat Safin and Juan Carlos Ferrero.
