Turkey's Halil Mutlu muscled into the Olympic record books, claiming a third gold medal to confirm his place among weightlifting's all-time greats.
The diminutive Turk, at 4ft 11" too small for military service, once again towered supreme over opponents in the 56 kg weight class, hoisting 135 kg in the snatch and 160 kg in the clean and jerk for a winning total of 295 kg.
China's Wu Meijin, who won world championship titles in the division in 2002 and 2003 while Mutlu competed at a higher weight, was unable to halt the nine-year unbeaten run of the "Little Dynamo" and settled for silver with 287.5 kg.
Sedat Artuc of Turkey completed the podium, taking the bronze with 280 kg.
