Irish para cyclist Richael Timothy failed to make the medal race in the C1-3 3000m women's individual pursuit but did post a personal-best time in qualifying at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome.
Competing in her second Paralympics, Timothy went in the second of five heats and racing alongside Wangwei Qian of China, her time of 4:05.247 saw her briefly top the standings from the ten riders competing.
However, world record times were subsequently set by Great Britain's Daphne Schrager (3:45.133) and Xiaomei Wang of China (3:44.660) and it is that pair who will contest the gold medal.
Germany's Maike Hausberger and Flurina Rigling from Switzerland will battle it out for the bronze.
Others also posted superior times than Timothy, with the 29-year-old eventually finishing seventh, an improvement on her ninth place from Tokyo.
Similarly, Damien Vereker failed to make it through to the medal race but posted a PB of 4:14.826.
