Irish Para swimmers Nicole Turner and Róisín Ní Riain both made it through to the final of their respective events on day one of the Paralympic Games in Paris.
Tokyo silver medallist Turner advanced to the final of the women's S6 50m freestyle.
She took third place in heat two, in a time of 35.35 seconds, just outside her PB, to finish fifth overall and be amongst those in the medal race this evening.
China's Yuyan Jiang set a new Paralympic record as she qualified fastest in 32.70.
Tuner was pleased with her swim, telling RTÉ Sport afterwards. "I'm quite happy, it's a nice opener I think. I mean the crowd is a lot different to Tokyo but it drives us on that extra bit so I'm quite happy with that morning swim.
Reflecting on her time, the Laois competitor added: "It's just outside my PB; my PB is a 34 high so the aim this evening is to get closer if not better than that.
She also was keen to deflect away any talk that she is a medal contender for now.
"I just want to enjoy myself. Tokyo was quite special for me but it has been a long three years and in those three years I've learned to enjoy the sport as serious as it is. I'm trying to block all those outside people; it's not that they are incorrect, that they are wrong, but I just want to focus on myself."
Turner has shown good form so far this year, having won gold (in this event), silver and two bronze medals at the European Championships, but has a battle on her hands to make the podium as third-fastest qualifier Anna Hontar of Ukraine was a full second quicker than the Irish woman's personal best of 34.71.
Also in Turner's heat was 17-year-old Dearbhaile Brady, in her Games debut.
She clocked a time of 36.45, placing her tenth overall, not enough to see her make the final.
Ní Riain was fourth in her S13 100m butterfly heat in a time of 1:06.40, qualifying for the final fifth fastest overall.
The 19-year-old from Limerick was the world silver medallist in this event last year and also won the S13 (vision impairment) 100m backstroke before collecting five medals at April's European Championships.
"It's a good time and I'm into tonight's final," was Ní Riain's immediate reaction.
"It was a decent swim and whenever I go out to swim I just want to do my best."
Grace Nuhfer of the USA was the fastest qualifier this morning, swimming the 100m in 1:03.95.
Carlotta Gilli, who beat Ni Riain in Mancester, was second fastest in 1:04.19, followed by Uzbekistan's Muslima Odilova (1:05.14) and Shokhsanamkhon Toshpulatova (1:05.83).
