Jordan Lee missed out on a medal in the men's T47 high jump final at the Tokyo Paralympics.

The 20-year-old from Killarney cleared 1.74m but was unable to clear the subsequent mark of 1.79m and did not advance into medal contention as he finished ninth overall.

USA's Roderick Townsend won the gold medal.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport, Lee expressed disappointment but acknowledged that he only began competing in the high jump three years ago.

"Obviously I'm quite disappointed in my performance, definitely performed under the standard," he said, adding that he "did not have enough bounce" in his legs during the event.

"It being my first Paralympic Games, I've just got to take it on the chin and use it as a learning experience for the future, for the likes of Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 when I'm hopeful to reach my prime and progress on overall as an athlete and high jumper."

He added: "I think with only three years of training, to be here at the Paralympic Games with all that sacrifice, you don't just rock up after three years to a Games. So to even be here, I'm extremely happy but I also need to highlight that today didn't go to plan but we've just got to progress and raise the bar."
