Britney Arendse smashed her own PB three times as she finished seventh in the 73kg class of the powerlifting.

The Cavan woman had never lifted more than 102 before the Games, but she managed weights of 103kg, 104kg, and finally 107kg.

"I had no idea that I would get the three PB's, one PB and a bonus medal maybe but I got the three PB’s instead and that’s even bigger," she said afterwards.

"106 (kg) was what was decided weeks ago. 107 (kg) was decided literally seconds after I came off the stage. We didn’t think we’d get it but we just said go for it you know."

Mariana D'Andrea took gold managing a lift of 137kg ahead of China's Lili Xu and France's former champion Souhad Ghazouani in bronze.
