Ireland's Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal set a new Irish record and personal best in the B 1000m time trial at the Tokyo Paralympic velodrome.
Dunlevy, who won gold with her pilot McCrystal in the road B time trial at the 2016 games, had to settle for sixth place in this event in a highly competitive field.
The Irish duo finished in a time of 1:09.044, with Larissa Klaassen of the Netherlands snatching gold from British 48-year-old Aileen McGlynn in the last ride of the competition, courtesy of a time of 1:05.291.
Belgium's Griet Hoet pushed Lora Facie and Sophie Unwin into fourth and fifth respectively, with Dunlevy finishing sixth.
Dunlevy was pleased with the Irish performance and afterwards said: "We are really happy with our race, really happy with our result because we got a PB by 1.3 second and are delighted with the race.
"We couldn't have done anymore, a PB is fantastic."
McCrystal added: "Today was a nerve settler for us. It was really good to have it before the 3k, so that we could go through the warm up, the procedure.
"All you can do on the day is go faster than you've gone before and I think it shows that we’ve got form, hopefully it will carry on to the next three events."
Galway's Ronan Grimes also produced his best ever performance in the C4 1000m time trial final with a ride of 1:08.62.
Grimes shaved over a second off his personal best in the event and finished in 15th overall as Spain’s Cabello won with a new World Record as Britain and Slovakia completed the medal positions.
The Galway man was satisfied with his performance and is now looking forward to the rest of the competition.
"Nice to get the nerves out of the way, go through the warm up, get a feel of the track under speed and hopefully that's good confidence for tomorrow," he said.
