Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal have won silver in the Women’s Tandem Pursuit Race at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Milton, Canada.

Dunlevy and McCrystal rode 3:27.358 to break their own national record by over three seconds and qualify for the gold medal ride against New Zealand pairing, Emma Foy and Hannah Van Kampen.

The New Zealanders had set a new world record of 3:20.819 during qualification and so went into the final as favourites.

The Kiwis led from the first time check and covered the three kilometre race in a time of 3:23.163, Ireland claiming silver in 3:31.396. Griet Hoet and Anneleen Monsieur of Belgium won Bronze.

Dunleavy and McCrystal will next race in the Women’s Tandem Time Trial, a four-lap one-kilometre race against the clock, on Sunday evening.
