Paul Keogan suffered heartbreak in Rio when he was disqualified from his T37 400m heat due to a false start.
The 24-year-old Cushionstown AC man had come into his first Paralympic Games with genuine hopes of making the podium.
A triple gold medal winner from the 2015 Cerebral Palsy World Games, the Skyrne runner had every reason to believe he could make a real impact in Brazil, but his dream was dashed in the most frustrating fashion.
A false start resulted in his disqualification, and he could only watch on as Charl du Toit (South Africa) 55.28, Jialong Wu (China) 55.54 and Mohamed Abdellatef (Egypt) 56.27 emerged from his heat.
