1.37pm Ellen Keane – Swimming, S9 100m Butterfly heats

Elllen won her first medal in three Paralympic Games when securing bronze in the SB8 100m breaststroke final at Rio’s Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre last night. The 21-year-old Dubliner has also won medals at World Championships in the past, but will be hoping to earn the chance of another Paralympic podium today.

1.55pm Nicole Turner – Swimming, SB6 100m Breaststroke heats

Nicole has already reached three finals in Rio at these Games, placing seventh in the 200m Individual Medley, eighth in the 400m Freestyle while clocking a PB on her way to fifth in the 50m Butterfly final. Ireland’s youngest athlete at 14, the Laois woman will be hoping for another final place today.

2.05pm Orla Barry – Athletics, F57 Discus final

Orla Barry

Orla is a real medal hope for Team Ireland at what is her third Paralympics. The Cork woman finished fifth in Beijing in 2008, while claiming bronze at London 2012. She won silver at the IPC Athletics World Championships in 2013 and bronze at the Worlds in Doha in 2015. The amputee has form this year too, winning gold at the IPC European Championships in June.

2.10pm Patrick O’Leary – Canoeing, KL3 200m final

Cork man Patrick is making his first appearance at the Paralympic Games as canoeing does too. The NUI Galway lecturer finished third in his heat in 45.977 before improving on that time in the semi-final, with 44.135 enough for another third place and a spot in today’s final

3.45pm Paul Keogan – Athletics, T37400m heats

Paul is a member of Cushionstown AC and the Meath native is a triple gold medal winner from the 2015 Cerebral Palsy World Games. This is the man from Skyrne’s first Paralympics however, but he has been performing well so far this year and will be hoping to reach the final at least.

4.20pm Ciara Staunton – Cycling, H2-4 Road Race

Ciara had a tough opening to her Paralympics when finishing last in the H1-2-3 time trials yesterday. However, the Wicklow woman topped the World Series table this year with two Road Race silver medals at World Cups events in Ostend and South Africa so will be expecting better today.

4.45pm Helen Kearney – Equestrian, Grade 1a Individual Championship

Helen Kearney

Helen won three equestrian medals at London 2012 - silver in the individual championship and bronze in the Freestyle and team competitions, so was disappointed to finish 20th out of a 25-strong field in the Grade 1a Dressage on Monday. The 27-year-old Dunlavin woman goes again today in this stand-alone competition. Tuesday’s score of 68% will be combined with her result today and if she makes the top third of the field who will then contest the separate Freestyle Competition.

5.30pm & 7pm Sonar Sailors - Sailing, Races 7 and 8

Ireland's Sonar crew of John Twomey, Ian Costelloe and Austin O'Carroll are up to 10th after six races in Rio, slowly climbing after a poor start. The trio can discard their worst score though, meaning a couple of better results could see climb the leaderboard further today with two more races to some.

6.20pm Declan Slevin – Cycling, H3 Road Race

Declan Slevin

Declan finished 11th in the 12-man H3 20km yesterday, with the heat contributing to a time of 32:59.53, well below his best of 26:58. A member of Rosemount Cycling Club in Westmeath, whose initial para-sport was basketball, he will be hoping for better in the Road Race this evening.

9.40pm Niamh McCarthy, Athletics, F41 Discus final

This is Niamh’s first Paralympic Games and she will be hopeful of success in Rio. The Cork woman won bronze at her first major championships when claiming bronze at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha 2015. She also showed form ahead of these Games, when claiming silver and setting a new European record at the 2016 Para-Athletics European Championships in June.
